Why You’ll Love These Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- Only 3 ingredients: Break out your favorite chocolate, strawberries (duh!), and a little coconut oil, and you’ll be ready to roll.
- So easy: Wash them, dry them, dip them, and let them set…that’s it!
- Make them in big or small batches: Do you need a big batch for a party, or a small batch for just you and your love? No problem!
- Customizable: Dip your chocolate covered strawberries in milk, dark, or white chocolate and decorate them with your favorite toppings, from drizzles to sprinkles to crushed cookies.
- Professional results: Your chocolate covered strawberries will look just like the ones from the chocolate shop, with no special equipment needed.
Ingredients

- Fresh strawberries – the better the fresh strawberries, the better your chocolate covered strawberries will be! Stay away from frozen strawberries that don’t thaw well and will leave your dipped strawberries soggy and wet.
- Chocolate chips – you can use dark, milk, or white chocolate chips as long as they are high-quality!
- Refined coconut oil – a little bit of coconut oil mixed with the chocolate is the secret ingredient! It will help loosen the melted chocolate for easy dipping and it will create a slightly gloss, smooth, professional finish. You can use unrefined (virgin) coconut oil but it has a coconut flavor, whereas refined coconut oil is processed to remove impurities and is flavorless.
- Toppings to decorate (optional) – simply dip your strawberries in the chocolate shell and stop there, or garnish with fun toppings! My favorite finish is melting a little extra chocolate mixed with coconut oil to drizzle on top of the dipped strawberries.
How to Melt Chocolate for Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Skip the double boiler and use the microwave! It’s way easier and yields the same result. The key is to melt chocolate in the microwave slowly to prevent burning. Here are the super easy steps:
- Place chocolate chips in a small, microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave in increments of 20 seconds, stirring every increment, until just melted.
- Stir in coconut oil. You’re ready to dip!

My Pro Tip
Pro Tips for Perfect Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Choose fresh strawberries that are unblemished and ripe. Just like with my Strawberry Pie, Strawberry Pound Cake, and Strawberry Preserves recipes, the fresher the strawberries, the better your chocolate covered strawberries will be!
Coconut oil is the secret ingredient. A little bit of coconut oil yields smooth, slightly glossy chocolate covered strawberries. Use refined coconut oil that has a neutral flavor.
Use high-quality chocolate chips. Good chocolate = good chocolate covered strawberries.
Bring strawberries to room temperature. When the strawberries are cold, the melted chocolate will become lumpy and condensation will form on the outside of the dipped strawberries.
Finish with a chocolate drizzle. Melt a little extra chocolate with a tiny bit of coconut oil, and use a teaspoon to drizzle the chocolate over the top of the dipped strawberries before they set.
Storage Tips
Chocolate covered strawberries look and taste their best the day you make them, but they do last up to 2 days in the fridge before the strawberries start to get mushy and the chocolate shell softens and sweats.
I do not recommend freezing chocolate covered strawberries. They unfortunately don’t thaw well.
Frequently Asked Questions
As long as the chocolate is high-quality, you can use whatever chocolate chips you like (milk, dark, or white!). I personally love Ghirardelli chocolate chips (this is not an ad).
Make sure to dry your strawberries well and bring them to room temperature before dipping! After that, you should be smooth sailing.
No! Bring them to room temperature for at least 30 minutes or else the melted chocolate will become lumpy and your dipped strawberries will form condensation on the outside.
Dry off your strawberries well and bring the strawberries to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before dipping them.

Notes
- Look for refined coconut oil that has a neutral flavor. While you can use unrefined coconut oil, it has a coconut flavor. A small amount of coconut oil helps create a smooth, slightly glossy chocolate shell.
- Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best results!
- I personally love semi-sweet chocolate for dipping strawberries!
- Don’t dip strawberries right from the fridge. When the strawberries are cold, the melted chocolate will become lumpy and condensation will form on the outside of the dipped strawberries.
- For a decorative chocolate drizzle, melt a little extra chocolate with a tiny bit of coconut oil and use a teaspoon to drizzle the chocolate over the top of the dipped strawberries before their chocolate shells harden.

My kid really enjoyed decorating these. They got a little carried away with the drizzling, so your strawberries look prettier, but I’m sure ours were just as delicious!
Aww! I love this! I’m sure they were beautiful and delicious 🙂 Thanks for letting me know.
