Before this post, I’d never tasted a White Russian. I’m not sure why, given my love affair with coffee. But what’s so special about this recipe compared to the millions of other White Russian recipes out there? Instead of simply adding cream to the mix, I use a 50/50 ratio of cream and ice cream. The slight sweetness and depth of vanilla beans make a relatively one-dimensional drink come alive!
Makes: 1 cocktail
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 0 minutes
Total time: 5 minutes
The Ingredients
3 tablespoons good quality unflavored vodka (I like Grey Goose)
2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (I like Starbucks)
1 tablespoon heavy cream
1 heaping tablespoon vanilla bean ice cream (I like Haagen-Daazs)
1 pinch instant coffee grounds
Ice
The Steps
In a fun, relatively small or shallow cocktail glass of your choosing, add 3-5 ice cubes. Add vodka and coffee liqueur. Stir. Add heavy cream. Stir if you choose, or let the cream rest on top for a dramatic color gradient! Add scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Garnish with instant coffee grounds.
