Spicy, Salty, and Sweet Glazed Nuts

I love nuts in recipes. But nuts alone for a healthy snack…blah! Imagine a crispy, spicy, salty, and slightly sweet glaze coating on a bowl full of mixed nuts. Find the recipe to the perfect snack or cocktail hour accompaniment below!

They’re crispy because they’re baked in the oven, just until the flavors of the glaze blanket every nut.

The recipe will surprise you; a mix of spices are combined to make a glaze that will make you go nuts…in a good way, that is.

 

 

 

Makes: 4 cups glazed nuts

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 40 minutes

Total time: 50 minutes

The Ingredients

4 cups lightly salted mixed nuts

½ cup white sugar

1/3 cup water

1 teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon cayenne

1 teaspoon mustard powder

½ teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon kosher salt

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

 

 

 

The Steps

Grease a 13×9 glass pan with butter. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium bowl, add mixed nuts, black pepper, cayenne, mustard powder, and garlic powder. Stir to combine.

In a small saucepan, add water, sugar, and butter. Stir and heat on low until butter mixture melts. Add butter mixture to bowl. Stir to combine.

Pour nuts evenly into greased glass pan. Place in oven for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and stir. Spread evenly. Bake again for 10 minutes. Remove from oven, stir, and spread evenly again. Bake for 5-10 more minutes, until liquid has dissolved to a thick paste and nuts are sticky and coated. Remove from oven, stir, and spread in a single layer on a large plate or aluminum foil to cool completely. Make sure nuts are separated or else they will clump together!

Enjoy at room temperature.
